The American Art department is seeking a Collections Assistant to work with, and support, the curatorial staff in the day-to-day management and research of objects in the department’s care, as well as those on loan to the Museum. This position will also support the management of two park houses (Cedar Grove and Mount Pleasant) and objects on loan from The Dietrich American Foundation. The Collections Assistant will assist in managing the departmental permanent collection by completing incoming and outgoing condition reports, coordinating the movement of works of art internally, and updating object locations using The Museum System (TMS). This position will also assist with digitally maintaining collections-based information by serving as a liaison between curators and Interpretation and Digital Information teams to ensure that collections material is being shared throughout the Museum and add provenance, bibliographical information, and exhibition histories in accordance with TMS standards. This position will also be responsible for other duties as assigned.
Qualified applicants will have a minimum of three years of museum or collection-related experience and will have a strong ability to synthesize information from various sources and identify and remedy any discrepancies. The ideal candidate will have superb attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong computer skills including experience with MS Excel and Word with the ability to learn the collection database and Financial Edge software. Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred, in art history, American history, material culture, or related fields.
