The Frick Collection is an art museum consisting of more than 1,100 works of art from the thirteenth to the nineteenth century, displayed in the intimate surroundings of the former home of Henry Clay Frick. The residence, with its furnishings and works of art, has been open to the public since 1935. The Frick Art Reference Library is an internationally-recognized research library that serves as one of the most complete resources for the study of Western art. Founded in 1920, the Library today holds of more than one million study photographs, 285,000 books, 80,000 auction catalogs, and 2,250 periodical titles. It is open to interested individuals from all over the world.
Summary and Responsibilities
The Curatorial Assistant provides administrative and research support to the Associate Curator whose projects range from art of the Italian Renaissance through the eighteenth century (painting, sculpture, and works on paper). We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual who can assist in the following areas: preparation for exhibitions and publications (including maintaining object lists and files, assisting with loan correspondence, requesting images and rights for print and internet use, and conducting scholarly research); arranging curatorial events (e.g. study days, symposia, dinners); and carrying out other research projects and general administrative tasks. The position provides a superb opportunity for participating in all aspects of curatorial work in a small, dynamic department and interacting with staff across the institution and the public. This position is currently funded for a two year period; funding will be reevaluated in year two for continued employment.
B.A. in Art History. Fluency in reading Italian; proficiency in reading in additional foreign languages (French, Spanish, German) useful. Strong writing, editorial, and research skills. Computer literacy in a Windows environment/Microsoft Office Suite essential, experience with The Museum Database, preferred.
