AIGA, the professional association for design is the world’s oldest and largest design association. Comprised of over 25,000 members nationally, AIGA advances design as a professional craft, strategic advantage, and vital cultural force. The digital marketing and communications director is a key leader in the implementation of the organization’s strategic plan. This position collaborates with colleagues across all functions (management, programming, membership, chapter development, development, events, professional development, competitions, advocacy) to achieve critical organizational objectives. Although a majority of the organization’s marketing efforts are digital, we are looking for someone who has a background and high level of appreciation for creating holistic experiences/customer intimacy through marketing and communications.
+ Plan, develop, and implement an organization-wide integrated marketing, promotion, and communications strategy as it relates to key priorities
+ Implement a strategy to activate community engagement and connection across a dynamic social media portfolio of 750,000 followers, 25,000 members and 72 chapters using new assets and leveraging existing content from our chapters
+ Contribute to and deliver revenue goals and growth (e.g. membership, events)
+ Establish process for effective promotion of daily, weekly, and monthly offerings from our three web properties (aiga.org, eyeondesign.aiga.org, designobserver.com) which feature original articles, events, video series, and more
+ Deepen member loyalty by creating an enhanced brand experience for this 100+ year old institution
+ Define consistent tone and voice for member communications across all channels and properties
+ Develop an effective marketing strategy in tandem with the membership team to increase membership through retention and acquisition, building robust campaigns designed to amplify member experience and elevate benefit offerings
+ Create strategy to best leverage marketing and communications in the complex contemporary marketing landscape
+ Coordinate successful data-driven marketing with inbound marketing strategies and SEO to offer real-time analysis and optimization of all campaigns
+ Manage communications team with a focus on newsletters, social media, and all other web-based marketing campaigns
+ Conduct A/B testing across channels and analyze data from website, event registration, and social media to report weekly on performance and recommend data-driven strategy and tactics for growth
+ Write or approve marketing, promotional, and editorial copy and oversee digital asset production
+ Keep abreast of developments in the marketing field and adopting and testing best practices
+ Collaborate with editorial team, as well as other departments that need support in promotions and outreach
+ Bachelor’s degree required; masters preferred
+ 7-10 years of direct-to-consumer and community marketing experience, preferably in a non-profit or membership-centric business
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills essential
+ Skill, knowledge, and experience in directing design and execution of marketing and communications strategies and campaigns; demonstrated understanding of segmentation and integrated marketing strategies
+ Experience building social media and new media platform strategies
+ Experience using Google Analytics, A/B and multivariate testing tools to analyze channels, websites, and campaigns
+ Strong understanding of technology and its implementation for marketing success
+ Results driven with strong business acumen including, strategic, organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills
+ Strategic thinker, able to synthesize various points of view into effective and impactful programs
+ Proven project management skills as well as leadership and people skills
+ Proven track record creating beneficial partnerships internally and externally
+ Preferred experience in and knowledge of graphic design, art, and membership based organizations
