The Chicago History Museum is seeking a dynamic, goal-oriented, experienced individual for
our Director of Education position. The Director will lead the institution’s educational activities
for visitors, teachers, and students and will be responsible for addressing equity, diversity, and
inclusion in our programs while strengthening the brand and visibility of the Museum. This
position will also oversee volunteer and intern programs and play a key role in advocating for
audience research initiatives and participating in grant writing activities.
Other essential functions of the position include leading a talented team, planning and directing
the strategic and operational activities of the department, and being a spokesperson for the
Museum at local, national, and other forums as a subject matter expert on interpretive
The successful candidate will have five to ten years paid experience developing and delivering
interpretive and educational programming at another cultural institution and a Master’s degree,
or equivalent experience, in American History, Museum Studies, American Studies, Education,
or a related field. Candidates who have prior experience developing programming that
addresses the issues of equity, diversity and inclusion are strongly preferred.
