Choose Chicago is the official sales and marketing organization responsible for promoting Chicago as a
global visitor destination to business and leisure travelers.
The Director of Marketing is responsible for the implementation of strategic marketing
initiatives to help achieve Choose Chicago’s goals. The Director of Marketing leads the dayto-day
operations of the marketing team, including: brand development, leisure and trade
advertising campaigns, digital marketing, in-house creative production and market
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Works with SVP, Marketing & Cultural Tourism, on annual marketing strategic plan
and budget in support of organization’s goals and objectives.
Oversees implementation of the marketing strategy – including brand development,
campaigns, events, video production, digital marketing and research.
Administers the marketing operations budget.
Manages daily activities with advertising and media agencies.
Guides the day to day activities of the marketing team.
Supervises Graphic Design Manager, Marketing Specialist, Video Production Manager,
Developer & Manager of Digital Services, Senior Content Manager, and Social Media
Collaborates with Tourism, Sales, Cultural Tourism, Sports Commission, Client
Services, and Partnership departments to implement regional, national and
Oversees in-house development of all marketing collateral.
Provides leadership in the development of marketing partnerships.
Involved in hiring and staffing decisions within the marketing department.
Develops and delivers presentations to the organization, Board of Directors and
partners where appropriate.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Marketing preferred or equivalent experience
Eight years or more of marketing/communications experience showing progressive
growth and training equal to the skill level needed to perform this position
Knowledge of the hospitality industry required
Prior supervisory experience required
Detailed-oriented with ability to oversee projects from origin through execution
Effective communication skills, both oral and written
Self-starter with hands on, creative approach towards business
Willingness to learn and should be able to flourish in a dynamic environment
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
Must be able to speak publicly and give presentations to organizations, board of
directors and community groups
Ability to represent the Bureau in a professional manner while interfacing with
internal and external clients
Possess good organizational and time management skills to handle multiple projects
Physical Requirements and Environment Conditions:
Ability to travel by air or ground transportation as required
Ability to perform computer work for extended periods of time
Ability to work flexible hours as needed based on marketing events/campaigns
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time without being able to leave the
Ability to grasp small object using the fingers (fine motor manipulation)
Ability to travel by air or ground transportation (includes personal and public
transportation) as required in performing the work
Ability to travel throughout the city, including prolonged standing and walking as it is
very often necessary when conducting a site inspection
Ability to work nights and weekends as needed. Working evenings include, but are
not limited to attending business exchanges and venue openings/receptions/client
appreciation events, etc.
