The Major Gifts Officer will build the major gifts program of individuals and foundations giving at the $10,000-$50,000+ level, including developing outreach, cultivation, stewardship, research, and reporting strategies. The position reports to the Senior Director of Development and will be part of a team of professionals who are devoted to securing significant resources to advance the mission of National Dance Institute. S/he will work directly with board members, the development team, the artistic team, and senior management, and is responsible for meeting an annual revenue target by working with a growing portfolio of donors and prospects.
o Ensure success through consistent, strategic cultivation and solicitation of major gifts prospects.
o Maintain a portfolio of current and prospective major donors with a focus on $10,000-$50,000+ level gifts.
o Develop strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward new major, renewed, upgraded, and planned gifts.
o Manage record keeping and reporting requirements, ensuring that deadlines and deliverables are handled efficiently and with highest standards.
o Maintain an active schedule of donor meetings with the goal of maximizing donor engagement.
o Work closely with senior management and the artistic team to pinpoint fundraising opportunities, identify prospects, and conduct prospect research.
o Ensure that recognition and acknowledgement letters to donors are personal, thoughtful, and timely.
o Serve as a key member of the fundraising team, participating in developing strategies to achieve department-wide goals.
o Create, update, and maintain Raiser’s Edge records, as needed.
o Other duties and special projects as assigned by the Senior Director of Development.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required. At least five years of fundraising experience, preferably in arts and culture, or education; proven track record of securing gifts at the major gift level. A demonstrated ability to design and implement effective cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies for individual and foundation giving. Experience working with board; the ability to manage complex relationships; a proven collaborator with teamwork skills. Superior communication and written skills; exceptional interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with high level prospects. A very strong work ethic supported by commitment and follow through; proven ability to manage multiple tasks and adhere to deadlines.
