Mark DeGarmo Dance seeks strong candidates for the new position of OPERATIONS LEAD. The Operations Lead will be a high-responsibility role for a high-level dance-knowledgeable individual with strong management skills, who could stand in for Founding Executive & Artistic Director Mark DeGarmo in instances where he is out of the country, at a board meeting, at meetings with Principals of the schools that are our partners, and other high-stakes situations.
Mark DeGarmo Dance is a not-for-profit interdisciplinary dance organization founded in 1987 as Dynamic Forms, Inc. and celebrating its 30th Anniversary in 2017. Our three-part mission includes Education, Performance, and Intercultural Community. Our vision is to Enliven Bodies, Change Perspectives, and Change Lives. In 2017, Johns Hopkins University’s research study, about to be published in Teaching and Teacher Education Review, concluded that ours is an “evidence-based” educational program with “statistically significant” increases in our students’ state reading tests. Other program outcomes include improving students’ writing, behavior, self-expression and self-confidence.
Our education programs are grounded in educational equity and target NYC PreK-5 public school students and multicultural communities under-served in education and dance arts. The organization annually serves up to 1,000 students and 200 classroom teachers in six Title 1 public schools in Manhattan (East Village, Lower East Side, and Washington Heights) and Brooklyn (Bed-Stuy, Clinton Hill, and Williamsburg) and over 20,000 individuals annually across all programs. We have also produced over 100 dances and 28 international tours involving cultural diplomacy and exchange with 12 countries including Latin America, Europe and Russia and have new performance projects pending.
