Lookingglass Theatre Company seeks a temporary full-time Summer Camp Assistant, June-August 2016, while the Director of Education and Community Programs is on leave. This person will report to Lookingglass’ Education Coordinator, and will be responsible primarily for clerical support and other tasks as needed to ensure a successful summer camp season.
The position requires full time work, June 6-September 2nd, 2016, with some training in early April. This position requires candidates to either own or have daily access to a reliable car; Summer Camp Assistant must be willing to drive to camp locations and run errands within the city of Chicago (parking and gas stipend provided). The position does not include transporting campers between locations.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications:
*Full commitment to Lookingglass’ mission and core values of invention, transformation, collaboration; this commitment is not only theoretical, but also embodied in day-to-day practice, particularly with regard to operating Lookingglass’ summer camp programs.
*Demonstrated interest in arts education, and belief in the importance and relevance of the field. Experience working directly with students preferred.
*Excellent communication and customer service skills with regard to a variety of constituents, including: students of all ages (K-12), parents and family members of students, teaching artists, and Lookingglass staff members.
*Ability to provide thorough, timely, pleasant, and accurate information (via both written and verbal communication) is required.
*Excellent organization and attention to detail. Experience working with Excel required; experience working with database systems preferred.
*Successful multi-tasking a must – the position requires the ability to prioritize information and projects, follow directions, and work independently.
Summer Camp Assistant will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of Lookingglass’ Department of Education and Community Programs during summer 2016. A partial list of responsibilities includes:
*Proofreading, copying, and distributing (in person and by email) communications from the E&C department to summer camp families, including email reminders, newsletters, performance programs, etc.
*answering phone calls and in-person inquiries from parents
*providing on-site support to camp staff as directed
*Purchasing supplies necessary for camp; typically this means 1-3 weekly trips to Target, Office Depot, Michaels, etc. This also includes purchasing food for a weekly barbeque each Friday in July, and coordinating barbeque preparation with on-site director and interns.
*Organizing all receipts, recording purchases as required by the department for reconciliation purposes.
*supporting on-site and administrative interns as needed
*Videotaping final camp performances.
