Role: Teaching Artist for Military Teen Filmmaking Program (Regular Part Time) Education & Public Programs
The Los Angeles County Museum of Art is currently hiring a Teaching Artist/Filmmaker to co-teach a new program for military-connected teens at Port of Los Angeles High School.

Some duties include: Co-teaches a ten-week after school filmmaking class designed exclusively for military-connected teens. Leads students in conceptualizing, writing, filming and editing their own short film that reflects their individual perspectives and, in turn, bring greater visibility to the military family experience. Leads lessons in screenwriting, storyboarding, cinematography, sound design, and editing in Adobe suite. Fosters a supportive and inspiring environment where students can explore personal stories, discuss works of art, collaborate, and share their ideas. Lifts 25 lbs or more and carries equipment to workshop location.
The qualified candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in Film, Studio Art, Art Education and/or at least two years of teaching experience developing and implementing cohesive lesson plans. Experience teaching and building rapport with teens. Experience teaching all stages of the filmmaking process (screenwriting, directing, cinematography, and editing) in informal learning or classroom settings. Experience teaching a variety of filmmaking forms, such as narrative, documentary, video art, and essay films. Proficiency with digital cameras and Adobe Suite editing software. Ability to scaffold the art and film-making processes. Knowledge of and enthusiasm for how art and film can be used as tools to express the human condition. Capacity to facilitate group discussions, help students make personal connections, and identify stories they want to tell. Effective interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Strong classroom management skills, maturity, emotional intelligence, and sound judgment. Cultural competence and sensitivity to and awareness of issues affecting military-connected children. A strong filmmaking practice.
